Chapel Hill Transit Routes Detoured for Holiday Parade

Chapel Hill Transit (CHT) will implement several route detours on Saturday, Dec. 10, due to the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Holiday parade. The parade will begin on E. Franklin Street at the Morehead Planetarium, traveling west, and ending at Carrboro Town Hall on Main Street.

The following Saturday routes will be detoured/delayed as a result of the parade:

CW route from 9:45 a.m. until 11:44 a.m.
FG route from 8:50 a.m. until 11 a.m.
D route from 9:05 a.m. until 11:40 a.m.
JN route from 9:45 a.m. until 11:33 a.m.
T route from 8:15 a.m. until 11:40 a.m.
U route will begin at 11:20 a.m. at the Carolina Coffee Shop

The Saturday CM and NU routes will operate regular schedules.

Detour information is available online at chtransit.org and will be posted on buses Saturday, Dec. 3.

CHT will make every attempt to maintain schedules but is advising customers to expect delays and to allow extra travel time due to the parade. While CHT will attempt to operate normal printed schedules on all routes, delays may occur. Customers should plan to travel earlier than 10 a.m. and after noon to avoid parade traffic.

For specific questions on the detours, please contact a customer service representative at 919-969-4900 (press 1) or email chtransit@townofchapelhill.org.

F Route Returns to Weaver Street

Weaver Street between Main Street and S. Greensboro Street has reopened. Beginning Wednesday, July 6, the F route will return to its regular route, serving Weaver Street Market and the Century Center.
The CW route will continue to be detoured along Main Street until further notice.

Umstead Park to Close on July 5

Chapel Hill’s Umstead Park and its adjacent Tanyard Branch greenway trail will close on Tuesday, July 5, and remain closed through December 2011 during an OWASA sewer replacement project.

The Town of Chapel Hill and Orange Water and Sewer Authority (OWASA) encourage drivers, cyclists and others to use alternate routes around the sewer project. Currently, Umstead Drive is closed between Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Umstead Park.

OWASA’s contractor also plans to close the intersection of Village Drive and Umstead Drive from mid-October through mid-November 2011. This estimated timetable is subject to change due to weather and other factors.

To find out more about the sewer project, check bit.ly/lSfbpC. For more information about the park closure, contact Parks and Recreation Assistant Director Bill Webster at 919-968-2819 or bwebster@townofchapelhill.org.

Adjustment to the Umstead Drive Transit Detour

Chapel Hill Transit (CHT) will implement a minor adjustment to the current detour on the A and Saturday T routes beginning Saturday, May 14. The A and Saturday T routes will make a left turn from Severin Street onto Bradley Road, left on Williams Circle and a right on Barclay Road. All stops along Bradley Road will be closed during this detour.

For questions about the route change, call a CHT customer service representative at 919-969-4900 or email chtransit@townofchapelhill.org.
