Do you walk, bike, run, or ride the bus around Chapel Hill? The Town of Chapel Hill wants your feedback on the draft recommendations of the Mobility and Connectivity Plan!
The Open House Session for the Draft Mobility and Connectivity Plan will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 15, in the first floor lobby of Chapel Hill Town Hall, 405 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Drop in anytime between 4 and 7 p.m.
The open house is drop-in style with no formal presentation. Staff will be available to discuss maps and materials during the open house.

About the Plan

In 2016, the Town of Chapel Hill Planning and Development Services Department initiated this planning effort in consultation with Stewart Inc., an engineering, design and planning firm located in Raleigh, Durham and Charlotte.
The Mobility and Connectivity Plan outlines the steps necessary for Chapel Hill to become a community where bicycling, walking, and riding transit are safe and convenient everyday choices. The draft plan is an overall network exercise looking at bicycle, pedestrian, and greenway connectivity, along with transit stop access, throughout the Town. It includes a prioritized list of both short- and long-term projects to improve non-motorized transportation opportunities in Chapel Hill. The Mobility Plan will complement and expand upon existing adopted plans including the Chapel Hill Bike Plan (2014), and the Greenways Master Plan (2013).

Next Steps

The next several months will involve advisory board review of the draft plan. The plan will be considered for adoption by the Chapel Hill Town Council in October.

Bus and Rail Investment Plans – Open House Public Meetings

DURHAM and ORANGE COUNTIES:

The proposed Durham and Orange Counties Bus and Rail Investment plans address the need for enhanced public transportation in the Triangle to serve its growing populations as well as provide opportunities for low-to-moderate income families to get to work, educational opportunities, and other cities in the region. The plans outline the variety of revenue sources necessary to support the proposed light rail, commuter rail, and expanded local and regional bus services.

Open house sessions for residents to learn more about these proposed plans are scheduled at the following locations:

  • June 7, from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. – Southwest Library, 3605 Shannon Rd., Durham
  • June 8, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. – Holton Career and Resource Center’s Senior Room, Second Floor, 401 N. Driver St., Durham
  • June 14, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. – Chapel Hill Town Hall, 405 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., Chapel Hill
  • June 15, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. – North Regional Library, 221 Milton Rd., Durham
  • June 16, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. – Orange County Library, 137 W. Margaret Ln., Hillsborough

A short presentation will be given periodically at each open house session and staff will be available to discuss the proposed plans on a one-on-one basis with the public.

Residents who are unable to attend the open house sessions are encouraged to view the proposed investment plan for Durham on the DCHC MPO website at http://www.dchcmpo.org.

Workshop on Expanded Bus and Rail Options

Third Round of Workshops on Expanded Bus and Rail Options Begin March 22
Triangle Citizens Invited to Share Feedback Following Evaluation of Transit Corridors

WHAT: The last series of public workshops providing Triangle citizens with an opportunity to share input on the alternative analysis process as part of the Triangle Regional Transit Program (TRTP) will start on March 22. The TRTP includes proposed options for rail and expanded bus service in the region. The series of seven workshops in Wake, Durham and Orange counties will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Note time change: The session scheduled for Monday, March 28, in Raleigh will be from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. The workshops are part of a federally prescribed alternatives analysis required by the Federal Transit Administration.

WHO: Triangle Transit and the region’s two planning organizations and bus service providers are leading the Triangle Regional Transit Program.
