CHT Service Alert: Phone System Upgrade (January 28, 2011 – January 29, 2011)

Chapel Hill Transit’s phone system will be undergoing an upgrade Friday, January 28, 2011, through Sunday, January 30, 2011.  While they don’t anticipate interruptions in service, they wanted to make you aware of this update in case you experience difficulties reaching them through their general phone numbers.   If you do experience difficulties during this time, please contact the Regional Call Center at 919.485.7433.  The Call Center will be providing information regarding schedules, EZ Rider services and lost & found from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, and 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday.  Real time route and schedule information is also available at  They apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

GoTriangle joins Google Transit!

Planning your transit trips is now available wherever you go.

Google and the GoTriangle family of services are pleased to announce that the Google Transit trip planner ( now includes all local transit schedules and routes for the Triangle region. The GoTriangle family of services include Capital Area Transit (CAT), Cary Transit (C-Tran), Chapel Hill Transit (CHT), Durham Area Transit Authority (DATA), North Carolina State University Wolfline, and Triangle Transit.   The addition of GoTriangle trip planning services to Google marks the beginning of the full regional technology program, GoLive, which will also include a regional real-time system and an open-source data warehouse.

In 2003, GoTriangle launched a Transit Trip Planner at so that transit riders can find a best match for their next trip.  Triangle commuters can enter destination information in “from” and “to” fields from the home page. Using all of the local transit schedules, the trip planner calculates the length of time the trip will take and suggests the quickest, most efficient route. Customers can select not only transit but also a combination of biking and walking.

With Google Transit, Triangle visitors and regular transit users can now plan their trips using familiar technology while on the go with Google mobile apps, allowing for searches on smart phones such as the iPhone and Droid.  By utilizing Google search, riders have more options for starting and destination points, making for a smoother trip planning experience and easier integration into a transit-oriented lifestyle.

As part of the GoTriangle’s commitment to openness and providing resources to Triangle commuters, all bus system data will be available as GTFS (General Transit Feed Specification) files. These files will be available late January 2011 on GoTriangle for developers to create useful mobile phone apps.

Take the NCDOT Bicycle and Pedestrian Survey

NCDOT is conducting a survey to collect citizen feedback on statewide bicycle and pedestrian safety issues.

The survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete and will assist NCDOT in assessing the public’s needs and concerns regarding bicycle and pedestrian safety.



Your participation and comments are highly valued! You are welcome and encouraged to circulate the survey to friends and colleagues who reside in North Carolina.  Survey responses will be collected through February 8.

The results will be used as a primer to for a series of roundtable discussions scheduled for later this year and will be helpful in determining the level of public support for future investment in the state’s bicycle and pedestrian network.

Chapel Hill Transit Service Changes Begin Jan. 10

Chapel Hill Transit LogoChapel Hill Transit (CHT) will implement schedule changes beginning Monday, Jan. 10, to improve service and efficiency throughout the transit system. CHT makes changes to its schedules twice a year in response to ridership trends, changing traffic patterns, and growth in the area. These changes are made in January and August.

The changes are:

  • Weekday S: Extension of the 9:50 a.m. trip from the Hospital to 54 Park and Ride, due to increased demand. This trip currently goes out of service at the Hospital.
  • Weekday NS: Discontinue the 6:15 p.m. trip, due to low ridership. Trips will still be available at 6:10 p.m. and 6:25 p.m.
  • Weekday F and Saturday FG: Reverse the direction of the loop on Colony Woods Drive, Fountain Ridge Road and Landerwood Lane due to safety concerns.

New schedules will be available on the website beginning Jan. 5 and on buses beginning Jan. 7.
