Emergency- Getting Home

In cases of emergency, seen or unforeseen, an advance plan can be helpful for fast thinking.  There are a number of ways to be prepared in advance, as much a possible.  Some steps that can be taken follow.  Call 911 when an immediate emergency needs attention specifically for you.

Emergency Ride Home:  Register for the Emergency Ride Home program that provides a no charge taxi ride home if you have taken alternative transportation to work.  https://gotriangle.org/erh

OC Alerts:  Become part of the Orange County Alert system.  Simply sign up and receive emergency notifications.  https://member.everbridge.net/index/453003085611768#/login

Media:  Listen to local radio and television stations for updates.  The Town of Chapel Hill has a selection of social media accounts that will keep you up to date on current conditions.

Getting Around the Region – Traveling Outside of Chapel Hill – provided by Chapel Hill Transit

GoTriangle provides regional public transportation service to Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, RDU Airport, Cary, Apex, Hillsborough, and Wake Forest with connections to Chapel Hill Transit, Durham Area Transit Authority and Capital Area Transit in Raleigh.

GoDurham provides fixed route and demand responsive service throughout the City of Durham with connections to GoTriangle.

Duke Transit provides bus service throughout the Duke University campus and health system in Durham.

GoRaleigh provides fixed route and demand responsive service throughout the City of Raleigh with connections to GoTriangle.

Wolfline provides bus service on and around the campus of NC State University in Raleigh.

Orange County Public Transportation, operating as the Orange Bus, provides a variety of public transportation services to the citizens of rural Orange County.

Chatham Transit Network offers public transportation around Chatham County, in the towns of Siler City and Pittsboro, to Chapel Hill and back, and to medical appointments.

Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation (PART) provides regional transportation services for Guilford, Forsyth, Davidson, Alamance, Randolph, and Rockingham Counties.

Amtrak provides interstate rail service to locations throughout the east coast from stations in nearby Durham, Cary, and Raleigh.

MegaBus provides daily express bus service from downtown Durham to Washington, D.C., Richmond, VA, and Charlotte, NC.
